Sports Objective

To play with and for a team who carries a sense of professionalism in all aspects of their business. I am dedicated to continue to learn the game and improve my skills as a player to become the best player that I can be. I strive for success and to win championships. This game is my life and my ambition is to be part of a team who approaches it the same way.

About my game

  •  My father  has coached for 35+ years, beginning as a graduate assistant for Coach Bob Knight at Indiana University which molded both his coaching style and approach to the game. This was inevitably passed along and became my understanding of the game. From a young age I was taught the skills of the game as well as the values and life lessons that go with it.
  • I am a product of my father's coaching style, which has made me a greatly skilled shooter from every position on the floor and can stretch defenses with my ability to shoot the 3. I can play back to the basket, face up and can be most effectively used as a step out 4 man. I can put the ball on the floor and hit pull ups and find the open man.
  • I understand defensive rotations, help side and help the helper. I can defend a pick and roll by switching, hedging, pressing and any other forms taught. I take great pride in my ability to defend multiple positions on the floor.
  • Pick and rolls I can finish and pick and pop's I can step out and shoot, I can come off a down screen and tight curl for shots, I can read them and turn it into flares.
  • I can rebound the ball and get outlet passes out to 2's and 3's running the wings.  I TALK on the court and communicate with my teammates because I can see the game and understand what and when to speak.
  • The strengths of my game and my basketball IQ allow me to make good reads and decisions on the court. I play within myself and play for my team. I play to win, but win as a team.

Personal Accomplishments

  • I graduated from Augustana College in 2008 with a BA degree in Communications and a minor in Art and Design. My senior thesis was a comprehensive study entilted "Coach-Athlete Communication: An Ethnographic Study of Nonverbal Immediacy and Compliance Gaining." From this study I was able to further my understanding and knowledge about the  relationship between coach and athlete.
  • I've since held summer jobs as a certified high school basketball official in Iowa and Illinois. I'm also a certified substitute teacher in Illinois.
  • I run a skill development program "Play-UP Basketball" working with ages ranging from youth to highschool level athletes. Also, I do strength training and conditioning for clients of all ages and abilities. I’ve worked with my father, Ray Swetalla, conducting team organized workouts for the Davenport West High School varsity boys basketball team. Workouts consisted of basketball skill development in addition to strength and conditioning.
  • I enjoy working with and teaching students in the classroom and student athletes on the basketball court and will continue to do so every chance I can get. I was raised with a proper sense of humility and morals and I stay true to them to this day.
